Akerejola, E.S. 1990. Application of the Concept of Units in SFG to the Analysis of Oko. MA thesis. Zaria, Nigeria: Ahmade Bello University.
The thesis is a grammatical description of Oko, an unclassified member of the Kwa (Niger- Cordofanian) group and a minority Nigerian Language spoken in Kogi State. The description comprises both the units on the Rankscale as well as the metafunctional description of Halliday (1985). Among others things, we discovered SFG to be most suitable for the description of natural languages; and this because of the interpersonal meaning component, whose resources we tapped to explain phenomena which ordinary syntactic analysis would not suffice for.
